![]() The first trailer for Wish has revealed an absolutely beautiful art style and Chris Pine as the movie's villain. The story will reportedly include lots of Disney easter eggs, and a star that Asha wishes upon will be a major character. Written by Jennifer Lee and co-directed by Chris Buck, both previously of the Frozen franchise, the film will follow a new Disney Princess named Asha, who’s voiced by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose. Toy Story 3 flirted with that dark ending in the infamous incinerator scene but correctly avoided major character deaths.Wish was officially confirmed at D23 Expo 2022, and while few details are known, it looks to be an animated feature in the company’s tradition. Toy Story 5 wouldn't necessarily need to kill Buzz Lightyear or any other characters to explore what retirement looks like for a toy. Toy Story 5 could teach Buzz what happens when that's done. In the original Toy Story, Buzz doesn't know he's a toy, but ultimately he learns to embrace his role in children's lives. As Bonnie ages and the fate of her toys becomes an issue, just as it did for Andy in Toy Story 3, Buzz would need to fill the leadership void left by Woody's absence and guide the other toys through a final transition for many of them. There's a world of possibilities for a Toy Story 5 to explore to bring Buzz Lightyear's character journey to a satisfying end, even if Woody does not return.
